Cornell Keulder was rewarded for a brilliant season by being named the 2014/15 Rollers Player of the Year on Saturday night.
The prize-giving capped a brilliant night at Dave Hillman’s Sgt Peppers’ pub – the last function at the venue before the chairman and his missus head overseas.
Cornell was a worthy winner – his devastating opening spells often setting the Rollers on course for victory. He finished the season with 17 wickets at and average of 10.8 and an economy rate of 3.2. He also averaged 16.8 with the bat, with a highest score of 38*.
Jacques Laubscher scooped the Best Bowler award, having also finished with 17 wickets. Those came at an average of 13.8, with a brilliant best spell of 7-2-16-4.
Ryan Cooper got the Best Batsmen award, having scored 418 runs at an average of 38, with a highest score of 94 coming against Bellville Willows.
George Kamfer was named Fielder of the Season for a fine overall effort and one outstanding catch which got all of 165 views on YouTube.
Claude Louw got the Performance of the Season – a brilliant spell of 5/39 against Claremont Gents in a massive total of 222.
Michael van Dewenter was named Pup of the Season – not so much for being a rookie, but for finally coming out of his shell this season and even chirping opposing batsmen.
The not so prestigious awards went to George (Duckfarm Chairman), Michael (Bucket Award for most dropped catches and Mark Haselau (the Geriatric award – Claude Louw trophy).
All and all a brilliant evening filled with laughs, good memories and lots of wine.
Once again a massive thank you to Dave and Nicky for their hospitality – you will be missed more than you know once you board that plane.
