Michael van Dewenter was named Player of the Season at the West Coast Rollers’ annual awards ceremony on Saturday evening.
Our captain led from the front during the 2021/22 campaign, taking 14 wickets at 11.86 with best figures of 5-0-24-4. In a season when defending low targets seemed the norm, he often changed the game with his bowling, with those wickets also coming at an RPO of just 4.
It saw him move into fourth place in the Rollers’ all-time wicket stakes, with his 93 only behind Ryan Cooper (131), Hannes Carlson (141) and Cornell Keulder (148).
Michael also won the award for Best Bowler, while Neville Cooper walked away with Batsman of the Season, having scored 162 runs at an average of 27. He narrowly beat the challenges of Jarryd van Wyk (159) and Ryan (156).
Ryan won the award for Best Allrounder, while Hannes Moore scooped Best Fielder and Peter Muller received the coveted Players’ Player of the Season gong. James Lamprecht put in the Performance of the Season against Claremont gents, scoring 43 and taking 3/30.
Some of the more fun awards saw Charl Bester named Rookie of the Season and Duckfarm Chairman, while Michael got the Bucket Award for most dropped catches and Cornell the Claude Louw Medic Award.
